Marina Port Vell Barcelona is a marina integrated into the local culture. Not only because it is located in the heart of Barcelona, just a few minutes away from the city centre, but also because we ensure that our guests make the most of their stay with us. The wellbeing of our guests is one of our top priorities, which is why we offer an extensive programme of activities designed to enable Barcelona’s yachting community to network and bond in a relaxed atmosphere. In this context, one of the activities to which we periodically invite the captains staying at the marina is wine tasting or wine pairing sessions, enjoyable activities designed to bring our guests closer to the local culture.
What does a wine pairing session consist of?
Pairing means combining different types of food together with the drinks that go best with them. In this occasion, a select group of captains had the opportunity to test the sensory harmony of different wines from the D.O. Empordà, in north-eastern Catalonia, and cavas from the sparkling wine region par excellence, the Penedès, with different Catalan cheeses. The session was conducted by La Gastronómica, ─a company dedicated to the design of sensory experiences fusing together wine, cuisine, health and senses─ and was held in one of the most beautiful spaces of Marina Port Vell, The Sea Garden.
The activity
A sweet wine, a white wine, a red wine and a cava were chosen this time to determine their affinity with buffalo cheese, goat cheese, sheep milk cheese and truffled cheese. The wines chosen from the D.O. Empordà that captured our captains’ hearts were the following:
Mas Llunes Moscat: A sweet white wine made from the Muscat grape variety, produced by Mas Llunes winery. With a fresh aroma, it is fruity and balanced in the mouth.
Xot Blanc dels Aspres: A white wine made from Grenache Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Picapoll by the Vinyes dels Aspresv winery. This wine has a very clear and bright appearance, straw yellow colour that hides light golden shades.
Ull de Serp: This red wine is made from Macabeo, white and red Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah by the Arché Pagès winery. In the mouth it is juicy, full-bodied and with good tannins.
And as for the cava, the pairing offered by La Gastronòmica suggested tasting a MIM Natura Pinot Noir by Vins El Cep, an organic rosé cava of great aromatic intensity, dense and balanced in the mouth with aromas of red fruits on a floral background.
Among the cheeses, the highlight of the event was the tasting of Montbrú’s Sarró goat’s cheese, a semi-cured cheese made in the Catalan region of La Garrotxa and recognised in the SUPERGOLD category at the World Cheese Awards.
Thanks to pairing sessions like this one, Marina Port Vell Barcelona has the pleasure of bringing its guests closer to local gastronomy, always from a premium and high-quality approach.
